Rajasthan - A Land of Fairs and Festivals

Rajasthan has many festivals and fairs which are organized all year round. From celebrating camels, elephants, to the deities of the people, it has all. There is always a reason to celebrate, to name the main few- Camel fair, Pushkar fair, elephant fair, Urs Ajmer Sharif.

Camel festival, this festival happens at the Bikaner city of Rajasthan in the month of January, every year. As the name suggests this is the festival of camels, there are camel races and camel dances to celebrate the Camels. This festival has a lot of fun, music, colors in the city during the start of the year. The best way to begin a year with fun, colors and zeal.

Nagpur fair, this fair happens in the Nagpur city of Rajasthan in the late January or early February. Essentially an animal fair, this fair also aims at the cattle, beautifully decorated cattle, horses, camels can be spotted with their equally attractive owners. Different games and contests happen with the animal being around and is another moment of joy and festivity in the state.

Nagpur is a small place situated between Bikaner and Jodhpur.

Desert Festival, happens at Jaisalmer, when the full moon happens in the month of February.

One of the most popular festivals of Rajasthan, this is a three day affair. The desert comes to life with the variety of dancers from every other palace of Rajasthan. Dances such as Ghoomar, Gangaur, Gair Dhap are just a few on the list. Animal dances also happen.

A very cultural festival of Rajasthan, brings one close to the real culture of the place.

Elephant festival, a festival to celebrate the elephants, it happens in the month of March. This festival has Elephants dressed in various colors and different designs. The festival aims a worshiping Lord Ganesha, the son of Goddess Parvati and God Shiva.

Gangaur, a festival celebrated in the month of , it is one of the most important festivals of the state, and happens all over Rajasthan. The festival is dedicated to Gauri, a manifestation of Goddess Parvati.

Celebrated in great pomp and show in the cities like Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer. Etc, the people decorate the wooden idols of Parvati and offer prayers. This festival is celebrated to celebrate the conjugal bliss and marital happiness.

Urs Ajmer Sharif, happens at the Ajmer city. It happens in consultation with the Lunar Calender. In memory of Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, one who helped the poor, it is one of the biggest festivals fort the Muslims. Spread over six days, this festival, the festival marks the six days when the saint went to seclusion to shed his mortal soul. Pilgrims from the whole of India and the world can be seen here.

Teej festival, happens in the month of August . Though it is celebrated all over the state it is mainly prevalent in Jaipur. A women's festival, it celebrates the day when Parvati and lord Shiva came together.

Pushkar Fair, one of the noted fairs of the state , it happens in the end of October or the start of November. This is a very colorful fair which celebrates the camels and colors. It is a very important spot of pilgrimage for the Hindus, owing to the only Brahma temple in the country India. A fair which is acknowledged all over the world, for the cattle and the camel fair, this fair must not be missed if you are anywhere around the place during this time.
