The number of teaching job openings worldwide is less than the number of teaching applicants. If you want to pass a teaching job interview with flying colors, therefore, you should understand common interview preparation tips and apply them whenever you attend interviews for teachers.

Here are a few of the most common techniques that can help you reach your dream of becoming a teacher:

1. Update your resume and review it prior to your interview.

One of the most important requirements when applying for teaching jobs is your resume or the so called curriculum vitae. You have to see to it that it is organized, and detailed, as that is the very first thing that the interviewer or hiring officer will review. If your resume is incomplete, or not interesting enough, you may not even be called for a teaching job interview.

A good resume is one that lists your basic information, educational background, and training and work experience e.g. home address, phone number, birth date, schools attended, job experience, etc. It is necessary for you to include a brief description of each job position you had or currently have. You should also list down a few of your skills, special skills, or trainings in your CV.

Of course, one of the interview preparation tips is for you to bring your resume to the interview, and ensure that it is very much accessible -- this means that you should not have to rummage around your bag for it, nor present your interviewer with crumpled curriculum vitae because of your rummaging.

2. Gain knowledge about the institution you'll be interviewed in as well as the subjects you plan to teach.

To have a better chance of passing interviews for teachers, you should also be knowledgeable about the institution you are applying to as well as the actual subjects you plan to teach. Your knowledge should of course be updated. Outdated information will work negatively for you instead of positive. Part of interview preparation tips, therefore, is to research on the school/university, as well as any new findings about your desired teaching subjects.

3. Be a smart dresser.

The way you dress also affects the result of the teaching job interview. Most interviewers form an impression of you with how you dress. You should see to it that you're dressed professionally whenever you attend interviews for teaching job openings. Wearing wrinkled clothes, unbuttoned blouses, revealing clothes, etc. should be avoided if you want to make a good first impression.

4. Exhibit good manners and the proper conduct.

For you to ace your teaching job interview, it is also very important that you demonstrate the right conduct and good manners. First and foremost, you should not be late for the interview. You should also shake the hand of your interviewer, greet him or her with a sincere smile, and look directly into the interviewer's eyes when speaking with him or her. Remember that once an interviewer sees disrespectful or inappropriate conduct, you can't expect to be hired for that teaching post.
